LED Downlight — Tech Spec

Recessed downlights. Offices, retail, hotel corridors, residential. Nothing exotic — but the difference between a well-built downlight and a cheap one shows up in the cutout precision, the reflector quality, and whether the driver buzzes after a year.

Core Specs

Wattage: 5W / 7W / 9W / 12W / 15W / 18W / 24W / 30W. The 12W and 15W cover probably 70% of commercial projects we ship.

Cut-out diameter: 55 mm (3–5W), 75 mm (7–9W), 95 mm (12W), 115 mm (15W), 145 mm (18W), 175 mm (24W), 205 mm (30W). Measure your existing hole before ordering — we've had customers assume their old halogen cutout was "standard" and it wasn't.

Input: AC 100–277V, 50/60 Hz.

Efficacy: ≥ 100 lm/W standard, ≥ 90 lm/W for CRI 90+ PRO.

CRI: ≥ 80 standard, ≥ 90 PRO, ≥ 95 PRO-Ultra (Citizen COB source, lead time and cost increase). R9 ≥ 50 on PRO models. If you're lighting a high-end retail fitting room, spend the extra for CRI 95 — skin tones sell clothes.

CCT: 2700K / 3000K / 4000K / 5000K / 6500K. 3000K is the default for hospitality, 4000K for offices and retail.

UGR: < 19 with the standard reflector, < 16 with deep reflector and dark baffle. The deep-reflector version costs maybe 10% more and is worth it for any space where people sit under these for hours.

Beam angle: 24° / 36° / 60° / 120° wide flood. 24° for accent and high ceilings, 36° for general commercial, 60° for wider spacing, 120° for low ceilings where you need the spread.

IP rating: IP20 standard (dry ceiling). IP44 for bathrooms. IP65 on request — it's a different housing design with a sealed lens, and the driver enclosure gets bulkier.

Housing: Die-cast aluminum heat sink, PC reflector. Trim finish: white (RAL 9003), silver, black, or brushed nickel. Black baffle with a white trim ring is the sweet spot for reducing visible glare while blending into a white ceiling.

LED chips: Bridgelux standard, Philips Lumileds for PRO, Citizen COB for PRO-Ultra. The Citizen COB is a single-point source and throws a much cleaner beam edge than multi-chip SMD arrays — noticeable in high-end retail and gallery applications.

Driver: External constant-current, included. MOSO standard, Meanwell on request. The driver is a separate box that sits in the ceiling void — make sure your ceiling has enough clearance. Some slim downlights integrate the driver into the housing, but that limits heat dissipation and we've seen higher failure rates on those designs.

Dimming: Non-dim, Triac (leading and trailing edge), 0-10V, DALI-2. Triac is the most common for downlights because they often go into retrofit projects with existing wall dimmers. If you're doing Triac, tell us the dimmer switch model and we'll verify compatibility before we ship.

Power factor: ≥ 0.90. THD should be under 20% but can creep up on Triac-dimmed models at low load — tell us if you need clean THD across the dimming range and we'll spec accordingly.

L70: ≥ 50,000 hrs at Tc 75°C.

Operating temp: -20°C to +40°C.

Fire rating: Standard models are not fire-rated by default. If your building code requires 30/60/90 minute fire barrier compliance for recessed fixtures in a fire-rated ceiling, that's a separate certification and a different product with an intumescent material in the housing. We can supply these — just specify "fire-rated" up front because they're not interchangeable with the standard version.

Warranty: 3 years standard, 5 years on PRO.
